The 5 Questions Employers Dying to Know

1. "Why are you here?" They mean by this, "Why are you knocking on my door, rather than someone else's door.

2. "What you can do for us?" They mean by this, "If I were to hire you, would you be part of the problems I already have, or would be a part of the solution to those problems? What are your skills, and how much do you know about the subject or field that we are in?"

3. "What kind of person are you?" They mean by this, "Will you fit in? Do you have the kind of personality that makes it easy for people to work with you, and do you share the values that we have at this place?

4. "What distinguishes you from nineteen or nine hundred other people who are applying for this job?' They mean by this, "Do you have better work habits than the others, do you show up earlier, stay later, work more thoroughly, work faster, maintain higher standards, go the extra mile, or.....what?

5. "Can I afford you"? They mean by this, "If we decide we want you here, how much will it take to get you, and are we willing and able to pay that amount - governed, as we are, by our budget, and by our ability to ay you as much as the person who would be next above you, on the organisational chart?"

Interview tips

During the Interview, Determine to Observe the 50-50 Rule.

In Answering the Employer's Questions, Observe the Twenty-Second to Two-Minute Rule.

Determine to Be Seen as a Part of the Solution, Not as a Part of the Problem.

Beware of the skills the employers are looking for, these days, regardless of the position are seeking.

They are looking for employees:
  • who are punctual
  • arriving at work on time or early
  • who stay until quitting time, or even leave late,
  • who are dependable
  • who have a good attitude
  • who have drive, energy and enthusiasm
  • who want more than paycheck
  • who are self-disciplined
  • well-organised
  • highly motivated
  • good at managing their time
  • who can handle people well
  • who can use language effectively
  • who can work on a computer
  • who are committed to teamwork
  • who are flexible, and can respond to novel situations, or adapt when circumstances at work change
  • who are trainable, and love to learn
  • who are project-oriented and goal oriented
  • who have creativity and good at problem solving
  • who have integrity
  • who are loyal to the organisation
  • who are able to identify opportunities, markets and coming trends.
Above all, they want to hire people who can bring in more money than they are paid.

So, plan on claiming all of these that you legitimately can, doing the hiring-interview, with evidence (short stories).

I need confidence

It is God who grants me the chance to attend the interview. Without His guidance, I doubted if I could even get to the interview stage because it is very competitive here in Melbourne to secure a full-time graduate position because I'm not a local. The competition is even higher for me. I hope God will give me peace and confidence so that I could perform my best during the interview on Monday.

"I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me, freeing me from all my fears (Psalm 34:4) "The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6)

CASCADA - Everytime We Touch

I still hear your voice, when you sleep next to me.
I still feel your touch in my dreams.(my dreams)
Forgive me my weakness, but I don't know why
Without you it's hard to survive.

'Cause everytime we touch, I get this feeling.
And everytime we kiss I swear I could fly.
Can't you feel my heart beat fast, I want this to last.
Need you by my side.
'Cause everytime we touch, I feel this static.
And everytime we kiss, I reach for the sky.
Can't you hear my heart beat slow...
I can't let you go.
Want you in my life.

Your arms are my castle, your heart is my sky.
They wipe away tears that I cry. (I cry)
The good and the bad times, we've been through them all.
You make me rise when I fall.

'Cause everytime we touch, I get this feeling.
And everytime we kiss I swear I could fly.
Can't you feel my heart beat fast, I want this to last.
Need you by my side.

Current addiction - song

Evanescence - Bring me to life!

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I've become so numb
Without a soul, my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

Wake me up
(Wake me up inside)
I can't wake up
(Wake me up inside)
Save me
(Call my name and save me from the dark)

Wake me up
(Bid my blood to run)
I can't wake up
(Before I come undone)
Save me
(Save me from the nothing I've become)

Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

Wake me up
(Wake me up inside)
I can't wake up
(Wake me up inside)
Save me
(Call my name and save me from the dark)

Wake me up
(Bid my blood to run)
I can't wake up
(Before I come undone)
Save me
(Save me from the nothing I've become)

I've been living a lie
There's nothing inside
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead

All this time, I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything

Without thought, without voice, without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life

Wake me up
(Wake me up inside)
I can't wake up
(Wake me up inside)
Save me
(Call my name and save me from the dark)

Wake me up
(Bid my blood to run)
I can't wake up
(Before I come undone)
Save me
(Save me from the nothing I've become)

I've been living a lie
There's nothing inside
Bring me to life

A surprise

I finally got an interview!!!

With a global marketing research company. YES...A HUGE GLOBAL MARKETING RESEARCH COMPANY invites me for an interview.

This is totally unrelated to my accounting degree. I'm so shocked when I received this invitation. They invited me to join the company as a Research Executive.

A research executive do the following things

  • Responsible to manage projects from drafting proposals to the delivery of presentations
  • Responsible for operational control of research projects from initiation through to implementation, analysis of results and reporting
  • Perform, analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative statistical analyses
  • Desk research including tracking marketing and sales trends, analyzing collected data, gathering data on competitors and analyzing their prices, sales, and method of marketing and distribution
  • Prepare reports of findings, illustrating data graphically and translating complex findings into written text.
  • Client servicing involving understanding of client’s business needs and findings solutions to their needs through application of research methods and techniques
None of these related to my accounting background. Totally a new scope of job responsibilities. Marketing, the least possible option among the commercial area for me.

Now, decisions, should I go for the interview which will be held next week? It is based in KL, you see. And I have so little time to get ready, book ticket, accommodation and stuffs like that to go KL. And also, what if I really got accepted into the company? I have to freaking leave Melbourne for good! I'm actually not willing to do so =( I love Melbourne!

Then again, if I reject the interview, it means that I allow the chance to slip away just like that from me and maybe I'm not that lucky anymore in the future. To get invited for an interview by a global company that is.

Sigh..... HOW?

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Sigh

I have submitted a total of 35 job applications today. I'm so drained. I really need a job now!!!!! God please help me to get into at least 1 interview......... !!!!

So stressed!

God says: I will direct your steps
(Proverbs 3:5- 6)

You say: "I can't do it"
God says: You can do all things
(Philippians 4:13)
