At present, I've only received 2 replies in regards to my employment opportunity. I.e there is no graduate position at the moment and one of them even suggested me to take tax course -____-

Well, better than no replies. Sigh..

At this rate of application, I don't know when I can get my very first full time job *sobsob*

Food food food

Haha. This is my yuk gae jang. Obviously, it doesn't look like the one from the previous post. Not to mention the taste is very different from the normal yuk gae jang that I ate in korean restaurant -____-

But I still finished it considering the efforts that I've thrown in; from buying the ingredients to turning them into a pot of soup.

Crispy chicken ribs with creamy corn on rice at Rose Garden. This is one of the best rice dishes that I had in Melbourne =)

Pork ribs served with chips and a bowl of salad at Universal, Lygon St. The sauce is juicy and tasty while the meat are tender and chewy. Love it!

Hainanese chicken rice at Taste of Asia. One of the best chicken rice I had. You should try the one at the Malaysian Restaurant called "Kota Raya" at Clayton. Their chicken rice is the best one!

Delicious big breakfast along Flinders Lane with my sister.

My favourite cappucino =)

My sister's hot chocolate.

The refreshing and soothing lemon lime bitters. Perfect drink for summer!

These food pictures made me so hungry now -_______-

I need to off to sleep to cure it =)

Christmas shopping

My first yuk gae jang attempt has failed.

Because I didn't even make it !!!!

So yesterday, I was planning to do grocery shopping mainly to buy the ingredients to make yuk gae jang.

But ending up shopping at melbourne central -_______-

Because it was raining and I was not bothered to bring the grocery all the way back from city to my place under the rain.

I dunno if it is a girl's nature but I found shopping do release my stress and boost my self-esteem. But then, it will definitely burn a hole in my pocket because almost everything in the shops were on sale and I was so tempted to buy them.

The things I bought to pamper myself =) With my own money of course. lol. Remember I had more work shifts in December? =p =p

1. DAWN Sarah Jessica Parker perfume for only $29.95 (original price $69.95). I love the light and refreshing perfume smell. I've been eyeing on it since months ago and finally it was on sale. So I straight away grabbed it =)

2. Pearl Creamy Under Eye Pencil - $8.95

3. Darkness False Eyelashes - $5.50

4. Silver and black eyeshadow - $15.00

5. Eyelashes gel - $8.50

6. Heart shaped necklace (Diva) - $17.50

After the shopping session, I went to catch a movie. Movie of the night .......

Avatar

This movie has very good reviews and everyone is talking about it.

I couldn't agree more. It was indeed very interesting and extraordinary. The graphic scenes and sound system were excellent and breath-taking. However, it was long and quite draggy. I'm much preferred if the movie was kept within the normal 90 minutes long.

Oh, some parts of the scenes were similar to Transformers. There were robots trying to destroy the aliens' forest. Can't blame because it is the same director of Transformer who made this movie.

안녕하세요 !!

I just found out a really cool website === > http://www.maangchi.com/

There are different types of korean recipes in the website and it contains videos that teach you how to cook korean foods.

OMG I'm always a fan of korean foods and wanted to learn to make korean dishes since ages ago. Now I can make my own version of korean foods, I don't have to spend my money eating at korean restaurant which actually costs more -___- 1 small yuk gae jang for $15 -______-"

*Happy* I'm gonna make my favourite yuk gae jang (beef and vege soup) tomorrow! Can't wait already =)

dang dang dang dang!! the mouth-watering yuk gae jang !!!

Eyes issue

I wear glasses since I was as young as 9 years old. Not many choices of spectacles back then. They came only in black or plastics with limited choices of colours. My mum chose a black-framed nerdy spectacle for me. I felt embarassed wearing that pair of glasses because I looked exactly like an old witch with black glasses stuck on her face. My short-sightedness was very mild then with only about -1.5 on both eyes, so I can still see things pretty clearly without my glasses.

As time went by, more and more colourful shapes of spectacles being offered in the market. I remember the gold one was once popular and I had like 2 pair of gold glasses when I was in primary 5 or 6. And then, from the frameless one to thicker frame with different shades of colours.

This is my new purple-framed glasses which I wear when I go out. I know it's thick -____-

This is my other browny-bronze glasses which I wear in the house. Oh, I wear it for 3 years already, and it is still in good condition. *loves*

Apart from glasses, contact lens has also evolved. It has became very common nowadays. I had my first contact lens in year 2003. I wore monthly disposable clear contact lens. After wearing for several years, I stopped wearing them because I thought it was so troublesome having to put the lens into my dry eyes every morning

Then again, I started to feel like wearing coloured contact lens now so that my eyes will look larger and brighter. My single-eye lid makes my already small asian eyes looked even smaller. I couldn't wait till my sister comes back next year to bring me the coloured contact lens. So yesterday, I went to shop for coloured contact lens. I stopped by this stall at melb central selling Geo coloured lens. They are so expensive, around $84 for a pair. So damn expensive lor. I rather buy an Ipod shuffle with that price.

So I went home and decided to buy online. I went to this website called Clear Contacts, specialising in contact lens. I decided to buy daily lens because I don't wear contact lens everyday, only occasionally. The prices for the lens are reasonable and I've placed an order for 2 boxes of 1 Day Acuvue Define Vivid. 1 box with 30 lens for only $49.95 and because I have different power for both of my eyes, so I have to order 2 boxes. Basically, 1 Day Acuvue Define Vivid lens has a dark brown ring with soft brown spokes that defines the natural pattern of the iris that can make your eyes appear larger and vibrant.

This is how it works.

Before and after....

I am now waiting for them to be delivered to my house. I should be able to receive them tomorrow. I hope my eyes will look stunning with the lens =)
*****

As I grew older, my short-sightedness became worse. From -1.5 at the age of 9 until -9.0 now. I am worried that I might go blind one day. Sigh.. I have thought of going for lasik surgery but then, I was not brave enough and also I wasn't sure which optometrist could perform the best lasik on me.

Hmm...

Oh ...before I forget, Merry Christmas to everyone out there =D

Have a great one!

sad

How to apply for jobs if I don't have completion letter and academic transcripts. You tell me. Have to wait till 4th of Jan to receive my formal CPA result and then send in to my uni for completion letter. Then, I can only proceed to apply for my residency and then send in application. But I still have to apply for jobs in the meantime. Hardcore job application tomorrow. A must!

Another boring day

I supposed to continue my job hunt since I'm free today but I don't feel like doing it. I'm so unmotivated because I never got replies on job that I've applied for. Teach me how to get one!!
Should I go for unpaid internship for 3 months so that I have at least a work experience and who knows I'll be employed by the host company?

Decision, decision, decision....

Continue job hunting...

No life...no christmas celebration for me.. pathetic.

How Do I Get Employers to Notice My Resume and Call Me?

Rick Saia's post yesterday ("Dude, Where's My Job? ...") listed five typical reasons a recent grad might be having trouble finding that first job. Coincidentally, as Rick was crafting that post, a reader named Jen G. left a comment on an older blog post, asking a closely related question.
Jen is a new graduate who has posted her resume on various online job boards.

"Unfortunately," she wrote, "I have rarely been called back from a site that I have posted my resume on. What do I need to do in order to get employers to notice my resume so that I get called back?"

Since this seems to be a hot topic, I've added a few more tips for Jen and anyone else who's wondering the same thing.

Actively
Pursue the Jobs
  • Posting your resume for public viewing on web sites like Monster.com or CareerBuilder.com is a good first step, but it's a passive method of job searching. You have no power over whether anyone ever reads your resume or chooses to call you after reading it.
  • Only IF an employer uses those sites for recruiting, and only IF your qualifications match their keywords, and only IF they read your resume and decide it sounds like a good fit will you ever get a call. That's a lot of ifs.
  • In addition, a resume posted online is, by nature, a one-size-fits-all resume, not targeted to the specific needs of a particular employer.
  • So leave the resume online, because you never know. But meanwhile, make your job search active, and take the power back into YOUR hands.

Check ALL the Job Boards at Once

  • Go to a site such as Indeed.com or Simplyhired.com, which are job board "aggregators," meaning they search ALL the job sites for you (including Monster, CareerBuilder, company web sites, local newspapers, etc.).
  • Select the keywords that are likely to be in the title or job description of your desired position, and do a search. You can narrow the search by zip code and other criteria.
  • You can even save your search criteria and set up a job search agent that will keep checking these sites for you daily or weekly, and e-mail you any matches. But again, keep it active. If you're not getting good results, try different keywords or expand your search area.

Tailor Each Application to the Employer

  • When you find a job that interests you, edit your resume and cover letter so they address exact keywords and phrases you found in the job description.
  • For example, let's say they're looking for a "Senior Office Manager" and your resume shows you're a "Senior administrator responsible for office management." Those mean the same thing, but you'll have better luck if you edit your resume to match the employer's terminology.
  • You need to do that each and every time you apply for a specific job. So you'll have one "basic" resume and cover letter, but you'll tweak them for every employer. You may end up with 20 or more versions, each slightly different. It's a pain, but it's necessary.
And finally, we hope you'll backtrack through The Pongo Blog and Learning Center for lots of other hints on how to conduct an active job search that will give you the best chance of landing your dream job.

A little update

I still haven't secure a full time job yet.

I find it hard to write up a good resume and cover letter that can impress employers. I guess that's because my written English is not professional enough?

While I was surfing the internet searching for more job information, I came across this website, careerone.com.au that provides tips which I think is useful in drafting my resume.

I'm going to copy and paste it here for my reference.

A resume is a marketing document that sells a product, in this case, the school leaver and so it is important that it includes skills, attributes and strengths as well as previous experience that will appeal to a future employer.

Melbourne based careers expert Warren Frehse has some helpful tips to kick off with.

"A resume should definitely have a full name, address and contact number usually a mobile so that the person can be traced fast and an email address."

Frehse suggests including a personal profile that should detail who the person is and all the best points, qualities and experience that would make them appeal to an employer even without any work experience.

"People under estimate what an employer wants to see. People tend to say 'I haven't done anything' when they have acquired important skills and experience through volunteer work or sporting clubs or profitable hobbies," he said.

"Employers are also interested in the qualities of people. Counting cash at the footie club shows you're trustworthy and honest and would be good experience for retail."

Frehse recommends including a concise list of competencies under a 'Skills' heading.

"Bring up skills such as writing minutes, allocating tasks or correspondence you had to undertake for a club or group."

Beneath an 'Education' title include the dates you started and finished school as well as the names of the schools you attended. Make sure you put down any important exams or subjects you have taken and awards you may have received.

Document your extra curricular activities and hobbies. Whether you were a member of a school team, part of an acting group or in the orchestra it is all evidence of being able to work as part of a team or your creativity, dedication and reliability.

List any work experience including jobs like babysitting or newspaper rounds and any community work, volunteer work or club involvement. With bullet points highlight what the position entailed and what was learned or gained from doing it.

According to Frehse "employers want to see examples of leadership or where you have taken initiative by changing something for example putting all the trophies up at the sports club."

Referees should be the last thing on the resume and should be listed with switchboard numbers rather than mobile numbers. If they are not from another part time job they will be "personal" referees.

"People you know well in the community, someone who can assess your character," advises Frehse.

Finally make sure the resume is no longer than two pages, does not contain a stupid email address that might put off an employer and most importantly there are no spelling mistakes.

I really hope I can get a job by January. Dear, God please give me at least a chance to get into interview =( I'm so depressed now. Desperate for a full time work!

On a side note, I'll be volunteering at Myer tomorrow.

I already forgot the appropriate techniques to wrap a present. LOL. Well, I hope I could recall it tomorrow and enjoy my day=) First time of volunteering! Yay!
